SO did you get any improvement on our experiment on the keyword you are targeting or rather key phrase? If yes, then this will be start of our seo quest in finding search engine algorithm and how to rank in it. Please note that different search engines have different algorithm.

So here is what you need to do, on your key phrase or keyword you are targeting, search that keyword or key phrase on different search engines. Check the sites on the first 20 results on each engine. Look each site title, description and keywords. Compare the variation on the sites. This way you can know what needs to be change and what needs to be improve.

Implement some or combination of these keywords and description to your site. Check for improvement on your ranking. Be careful to over stuff keyword on your site, though you can rank in an instant but will not last. What we are doing is for a long term goal and ranking not just an overnight ranking spree.

Next discussion would be link building and competition analysis.

It almost a week after my last post. Been caught with too many work presently and loaded until next month, so I might not post often will try to post some information to keep this blog updated.

Anyway, to continue after our experiment blog have been indexed and place in useful content (not on my experiment blog because of the issue above), we should go now to a newbie guide on link building. How can we acquire links. Where can I get links? Or how can I put links such that I will be flagged as spamming?

One way is via article and press releases. Creating articles and press releases then submitting it to different article directory and press release sites can give you a link pointing to your site. Social bookmarking can help your visitors grow. Blog comments as long as blog have a follow attribute in them and that the comment is relevant to the post. Don’t comment for fishing topic if your site being promoted is shoes niche. Hope you understand what I mean. Why, the value of links is limited, you might be flagged as just a spammer.

Give useful information and links will just follow!

So our experiment blog got indexed already by google. Unfortunately, yahoo and MSN don’t notice yet our new blog. Maybe we give them few more days to get it indexed. for the mean time we can add now useful contents to the blog to offer to our readers that our newly created blog or websites is worth visiting. So they will keep on coming on our blog or site.

Anyway, so we proceed, next we can do after pinging, submitting so social bookmarks, adding quality contents for our robots and human visitors, the power of link building.

Please note that link building does not only focus on placing your site on another site. There are actually different methods on acquiring links pointing to your site.

One of which is via link exchange, one webmaster will link to your site and you also link to them. Second, we can do article marketing, where at the end of an article we can place our website link, third, we can do link baiting - this will let other webmasters link to your site or blog because of useful information or funny pictures or good videos you’ve got on your site,  fourth, forum signatures. Joining forums that enables you to have signatures help also gaining some free links pointing to your site. It also helps free traffic or visitors coming in to your blog or website.

There are other ways you get links pointing to your site and you can figure it out yourself as we go through in the next few days or weeks of post. For now, all you have to do is create contents to your blog or websites to make it appealing not only for search spiders or search engines but also for real human visitors.

Does your created blog on our exercise on the previous post not yet indexed on the major search engines? Well, we go to the second phase of getting indexed faster. That is making use of the social bookmarking. For this activity, we will use the service of onlywire.com. They have already a list of social bookmarking websites, so all you need to do is sign-up on those sites and place your log-in on those social bookmarking sites on your account at onlywire.

You can only sign-up for a few if you want but the more sites you have signed up, the greater the possibility of visitors to come to your sites and also greater attraction to search engine. So I have also submitted my newly created blog at http://allhalloweencostumes.blogspot.com to this social bookmarking service.

Let us see now, if still they are not indexed. If they are not yet indexed, let me know by commenting to this post.  Also to give you an update the new blog I have created above is also not listed. Also I am not giving it a live linking for us or my visitors to know exactly what I was doing to help you out indexed your site at the first place. So everything will be fair. If still nothing happened or not yet indexed, then we will use now the live link building. This will be tackled on the next post.

Okay, so If you have already created a blogger account be sure you have also placed a content on your site. Just to start also, I have created anew blog from blogger that will also help both of us understand what is going on with out experiment. Okay, I have registered, http://allhalloweencostumes.blogspot.com/, I will not link it first to this post to give you fair if you have just created one blog from blogger. I have created my first post on that blog account. Don’t mind about those ads, it is just an addition to the blog.

As you can see, there are 2,790,000 results in the Google search engine for the term halloween costumes, you can check this out search in google, and the blog I have created is not yet indexed. Pretty tough competition, was it? Don’t be afraid, we are experimenting seo here and we will tackle them one by one so we can also be in that first page google result on your chosen niche.

Okay, here we go. I have created my blog at blogger, create my first post, check the competition on google( you can do this before hand), check if your blog is indexed on google by placing on the search box of google search, site: http://allhalloweencostumes.blogspot.com/ or your newly created blog. Not yet indexed? Well then, ping different sites that you have created a new blog. I use pingoat.com for this.

So go to pingoat.com, place the necessary information, like your blog title and url or blog url, and your feed url, you can also leave the feed url blank. Click general, to choose all services and sites you want to ping. Then click go pingoat.

If it is done. Check your site if indexed, if not leave up to 24 hours for it to be indexed. Then we will start from here. Watch for the next post to come.

For my visitors, what exactly is seo? My thought would be, search engine optimization is a science and process of understanding search engine behavior and for search engine to understand well you website for ranking on their engine. Simple with an objective to rank higher on a particular search term to gain traffic to your site.

So back to the title, what should a newbie should know on SEO? I will try list basic knowledge you should know that will be discussed further on the next post on this blog. So first, know the terms on seo like seo, traffic, search engines, sem, ppc, response codes, SERP, backlinks, on-page,  and other terms related to SEO. Secondly, try to use google.com, yahoo.com, msn.com, and ask.com for a sample keyword search and take a look at the results you get. Look how each results on the first 20 that comes up their respective title and the text search engine displays below the link called description. Try to go to the result link and check the sites. In your browser, you can see that there is a view menu, click view source of that page and you will see some information, like the title and description and also keywords they have placed on their site.

From there, you can have a grasp an how search engine see their respective site. Implement this on your site and check if search engine spiders are crawling your site. Make sure your site returns an status code 200 and returns 404 for pages that is not on your site. There are several websites you can check this server response.

Next thing, we can do as an exercise on the next post is to create a blog using blogger.com. So I want you to create a blog now on blogger with any niche you want and we will take it step by step. Happy week-end.

Was having a blog or thus blogs now is the effective way of doing or promoting your company or product? I have seen popular blogs and representing their company or promoting their company and even getting clients through their blog.

Indeed blog is the easiest way to bring your business up to the public. But was it enough? You can have your sale go up for some reviews through blogging but take into consideration that blogging can also kill your business down if you have a defective product or a company that promises everything but end up nothing.

Blog as it truly means is not being used now as observed as personal journal but as a commercial aspect drawing into more collaborative financial reason. Most of these emerging or new blogs are just crap called splogs. Wonder if blog will die at the end when the net is full of this splogs. Hmmn, maybe search engine would can help.

I have been busy for a while negotiating some clients for seo work and most of the clients wants an abrupt change on their search engine rankings. They have asked if it is possible, then I say YES it is possible. But suffer the consequences and I will not be taking your offer. Two weeks to one month is possible to those key phrase that dont have much competition.

You know links plays a big role on ranking considering on page optimization was already done. I am not talking about just links, but a quality links especially from those authority sites or sites considered by google with authorities on their niche. You cannot just simply put your link there that says” hey put my link there or else” or ” i like your site please put my link”.

Instant ranking will just put your business at risk if you are serious with your business though. Rankings needs hardwork and patience and how you managed to keep your visitors coming back.  So just keep it slow and think for the long term.

Update: installed on this blog successfully. And testing some features. Basically database upgrade upon install.Tags plugin installed. Incoming links are not listed via technorati but via blogsearch now. Will update you on a separate post about my findings.
